Notes
The Durazzo family rebuilt its summer residence in 1678 on the basis of the model of the Genoese 17th century villa. In a dominant position overlooking the town, the villa stands out at the top of a promontory covered with evocative stands of centuries-old trees. It was remodelled and changed hands a number of times over the centuries, until it became town property in 1973. The villa contains statues, frescoes, ceramic and traditional Genoese stone floors, Venetian glass lamps and antique furnishings. In front of the entrance is a "risseu" pavement: a mosaic of black and white stones. The villa also contains a valuable collection of paintings, including portraits and religious paintings representing the Genoese school of the 17th and 18th centuries. For an enjoyable break, the Villa San Giacomo Coffee House overlooks the park (for info contact Raffaele Palazzi, tel. 0185/295758).
